Westminster City Council are keen on increasing the fines for dockless bikes that are not properly returned to designated parking bays. Currently, each individual business is liable for their own penalty scheme and plans to unify a ‘fine structure’ for all cycle-hire companies aims to ensure penalties are taken seriously. Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Cabinet Member for City Management and Air Quality was quoted as saying, “If we see bikes parked dangerously the council will confiscate them. But the dockless bike companies need to do more and handing out harsher penalties to irresponsible users is a good place to start.”
